Back in August, SCEE president David Reeves promised European gamers that by the end of the year, SingStar on PS3 would be patched to allow fans to play their PS2 song libraries seamlessly within the new game. Immediately after, SCEA released a statement promising American SingStar owners the same cross-compatibility. With fifteen days left in the year, Sony has delivered the update.

The swap-disc feature, a standard of the game since PS2, enables players with multiple discs to easily eject one disc and put in another without resetting the console. It's also standard for PS3 versions of the game. After installing the update, we popped a copy of SingStar Legends for PS2 into a 60GB PS3 to ensure that it's functioning. Indeed, it works. We also tried playing our Region 2 version of SingStar, which allows disc swapping between PS3 versions, and it wouldn't read the American PS2 disc, so consider yourself warned if you've imported other versions of the PS3 game.

For now, karaoke fans have a bigger library to choose from on disc, thanks to the new update. However, like many of you, we're still holding our breaths for SingStar Queen's U.S. release.
