Some things just need to be put into context: on the official PlayStation blog this afternoon, SCEA Producer Taku Imasaki wrote a post with the headline "Gran Turismo 5 Release Update." We'll give you two guesses what that means. And no, GT5 "coming sooner than expected!" is not the answer.

Sorry Gran Turismo fans, the game that's been "90% done" since E3 2009 and in development for six years will not be finished in time for its scheduled November 2 release date. However, Imasaki says the game "will be coming this holiday season."

"We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches," Imasaki stated.

More details are coming soon, Imasaki promised. We'll let you know when they do.

Sharkey says: I seriously cracked up when I read that PS blog headline. But I think Yamauchi and the Polyphony Digital crew deserve a pass on this one. Sony had them add 3D and PlayStation Move support to the game fairly recently, and there is no way Yamauchi would just tack on something like that to his labor of love. I'd be surprised if we did get this one by Christmas.
