SCEA PR Manager Eric Levine made the announcement on the official PlayStation Blog, stating the game would be released "later this year" for the PlayStation 3.
"LittleBigPlanet has always empowered users to create their own levels by utilizing the same tools as the development team," Levine said. "Now in LittleBigPlanet 2, we've upped the ante, giving players the ability to not only make better levels, but completely new games – think top-down racing games, multiplayer shooters, flying side-scrollers, RPGs, etc. The possibilities are really endless."

Media Molecule, now a Sony-owned studio, is once again handling development, and the game will feature a new storyline, revamped graphics, new tools, and additional Sackboy accessories and equipment.
