Activision continues week of layoffs with Shaba Games.
Yesterday 7 Studios faced
a round of layoffs, and today another
Activision company is facing similar cut-backs. Sources close to
Shaba Games, developer of
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, told
Kotaku that the development studio suffered 30 layoffs, apparently from lackluster sales of
Guitar Hero 5. According to
Shaba's website, the company has roughly 60 employees, which leaves half of the staff employed.
Tyler says: So when Activision's beloved Guitar Hero franchise does "poorly" other devs suffer? This sounds like that scene out of Full Metal Jacket where all the other boot-campers are punished because of Private Pile's shortcomings. So should Activision's developers flog copies of GH5 with soap-filled pillow-cases? Eh, they're probably better off working on their resumes. Best of luck to any affected by the layoffs.
