The layers of mystery surrounding the game are beginning to be peeled back.
Some destinies are chosen. That's the tagline for Activision, Marvel, and Silicon Knights' in-development X-Men game, Destiny. Exactly what that means to gamers is still a mystery, but the latest trailer for the game indicates your destiny includes battling massive super mutants.
Unveiled at the New York Comic Con with a teaser trailer in October, X-Men: Destiny got fans of the franchise excited when it was announced Marvel's X-Men Legacy scribe, Mike Carey, was on board as the game's writer. Other than that, the only details about the game came from a statement from Activision and Marvel: "The all-new original video game casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny." See how that destiny is shaping up in the game's latest trailer:
X-Men: Destiny is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is scheduled for a holiday 2011 launch.
Sharkey says: As an old-school X-Men fan, I'm intrigued. I'm also not getting my hopes up. Silicon Knights hasn't impressed since 1996 with Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, and the studio's most recent effort, Too Human, turned out to be one of the most disappointing games in recent memory. There will have to be a stellar demo to convince me to plunk down $60 for this one.
